Bridge Village Hall – Our New Main Venue! Lectures and Club nights

Bridge is 3 miles SE of Canterbury just off the main A2 trunk road to Dover.

From London take the A2 then the M2 for Dover; at the end of the M2 take the A2 again for Dover; ignore the A2050 left for Canterbury but take the next left turn after about 4 miles, a minor road to Patrixbourne and Bridge, which quickly takes you to a T-junction. Turn right (South West) for Bridge, then first left into Bridge High Street. The Village Hall is on the right, just beyond the second right turn (Union Rd.). From Canterbury  take the A2050 New Dover Rd. or the Old Dover Rd. South. After 2 miles you join the A2 at the point where you leave it immediately for the Bridge turn. From Dover, take the left fork for Bridge – the turn after the Barham turn. After about one mile look out for Bridgeway Stores minimarket on the left just after Bridge Hill is renamed High St. The Village Hall is about 200 yds further on the left, immediately before Union Rd. on the left. There is no parking at the Hall, but plenty of informal parking in the side streets nearby – allow a few minutes to find a place.

Canterbury, Univ. of Kent - Rutherford Lecture Theatre 1

Lectures jointly with Kent Physics Centre

From London take the A2 then the M2 for Dover; at the end of the M2 take the A2 again for Dover then the A2050 left for Canterbury. At the roundabout at the outskirts of Canterbury turn left down London Rd, and at the next roundabout turn left onto the A290 for Whitstable. In just under one mile turn right into the University Road. At the roundabout turn left and then immediately right and the visitor's car-park is on the left. The Physics Building is two thirds of the way from the visitors’ car park back to the roundabout “as the crow flies” and is well signed. If you approach Canterbury from the South (A2 Dover) or East (A257) it is simplest to go clockwise round the ring-road and turn right where the A2 for London leaves the ring road, then left for Whitstable and follow the above directions. If you approach Canterbury from the north-east on the A28 turn right at the ring road into Kingsmead Road, go over the roundabout into St Stephen's Rd, bear left at the Old Beverlie pub and then turn right into St Stephen's Hill, and the University Road is second on the left. Approached from this direction, the visitor's car-park is on the right.

Monkton Nature Reserve and Observatory - Informal Observing Sessions

Monkton Nature Reserve is situated where the A299 Thanet Way crosses the A253 Sarre to Margate Road. From the roundabout proceed towards Canterbury in a southwesterly direction along the A253 and the Nature Reserve is almost immediately on your right. The turn into and out of the reserve in any direction is potentially quite dangerous - take great care especially at night. Through the gates of the reserve bear left to the car park. Do not bear right to the visitor's centre unless you have a good reason to do so at such as a heavy telescope to set up! From the car park take the sharp left down to the Visitor's Centre and continue carefully past it towards the Observatory. Make sure you have a torch with you at night, as swimming is not allowed in the pond to your left! Care and supervision of children are particularly important at this site at night.

Walmer Castle – Monthly Stargazing – Last Fridays, Sept-March 7.30-10pm

Walmer is on the South side of Deal and is approached from the A258 Deal to Dover road. From Dover, about half-a-mile into the built up area of Walmer turn right into Granville Road and at the T-junction turn right. The castle is on your right but the car park where we meet is on the left by the seafront. From the direction of Thanet or Deal coming due south on the A258 coast road, this road bears right and leaves the coast in Walmer. At the point where it bears right, bear left on the minor coast road signposted for Kingsdown and Walmer Castle is on the right with the car park on the left, about a mile from where you left the main road.

Blean Church - Monthly Stargazing – First Fridays, Oct-March 7.30-10pm

From the South or West take the A290 Canterbury to Whitstable Road. Stay on this road and about a mile-and-a-half after the University turn (which you don’t take), turn right in Blean into Tyler Hill Road. After a quarter of a mile turn right into the track to BLEAN CHURCH. If you approach Canterbury from the North-East on the A28, turn right at the ring road into Kingsmead Road, go over the roundabout into St Stephen's Rd, bear left at the Old Beverlie pub and then turn right into St Stephen's Hill and carry on North past the University turn, and turn first left into Calais Hill which becomes Tyler Hill Road. The track to BLEAN CHURCH is a sharp left turn about a mile down the road immediately before Blean Village. (For further details if you are coming from London, see under University of Kent)

Hythe Pricess Parade--Monthly Stargazing--Third Fridays, Oct-March7:30-10pm

Pricess Parade car park, is at the Seabrook end of A259 between Hythe and Folkstone, 100yds past the filling station.
