South East Kent Astronomical Society

This is a 20 inch f4 Dobsonian, Compudob with a JMI MAX computer. This is used for deep-sky work. Since it is quite low when horizontal, he made a run-off roof housing just visible in the photo. There are low glows where the coastal towns and Canterbury lie but the night sky is dark.
Richard Bailey’s Observing Equipment

Richard observes from a dark site near Barham. His interest in astronomy started at about age 8 and now having retired from his own business is catching up afer many years of hard work and very little spare time. During the 1940's he used to make Zodiacal light obervations for the BAA from Canterbury. The night skies were dark then, even from the City!

This shows the Meade LX50 Maksutov f15 which is used in daytime for solar observations. These observations are made with a Thousand Oaks H-Alpha filter system, and a binocular viewer. The other telescope is for white light solar observations (with the correct filter of course).
Richard’s photos can be found in our Gallery
