Alan's Half Metre Telescope
Our very own Alan Snook, well known in the society for his exemplary observing drawings and logs, has been working very hard to produce an observing log of every single object in Halton Arp’s ‘Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies’. We now have a gallery dedicated to Alan’s project. The observations for this project were made with Alan’s half metre (20″) Dobsonian-mounted newtonian telescope. He’s now completed over 100 out of the full 338 galaxies so far, of which we have the first 25 online, and more will be added here as we get chance to put them up. More information on the atlas itself can be seen on the Wikipedia Page. Thanks to Alan for letting us host them here. They are a great example of how to go about recording your observations, and give a wonderful idea of the real views you get through even a large telescope.
The first 25 observations are now online in the dedicated gallery at https://www.sekas.co.uk/dt_gallery/alan-snooks-arp-object-catalogue/. Keep an eye on the site front page for announcements of updates and additions. This is also available along with the other image galleries on the image galleries page in the site main menu.
A PDF of these first 25 observations can also be downloaded from here…
