Sekas meetings resume at Alkham Village Hall on our usual schedule of 2nd Saturdays of the month.
A great members evening at the Paddock. The sky was completely clear all night, but something appeared later on which started scattering light all over the place. Seemed like a mist of some sort, but the air seemed very dry to all of us…..
We also saw a fantastic object pass quite slowly across a big chunk of sky along the bottom of Orion and beyond, and then it broke up into several pieces and faded out. I wonder if it was actually a piece of space debris, rather than the meteor we all thought it was. Either way, it was a truly amazing sight, and more than makes up for all the meteors I normally miss!!
We all had a look at several objects through the different scopes, especially Adam’s 12″ dob, including Venus, Andromeda galaxy, the Crab Nebula, several star clusters, the Rosette Nebula, and the ever stunning Orion Nebula (to name a few).
I was also given a double star lesson from the expert Phillip Young, along with John Male. I saw my first proper visual double stars, and we put Alan Snook’s Sirius Pup test a go. Sadly we don’t think we succeeded……
New(ish) member Steve Joy came out for his first Paddock meeting, and hopefully the first of many. Some imaging was done by Laura Marsh, Andy Wiseman, David Clare and Ashley Fuggle. I really look forward to seeing all the results.
