Scout groups, Schools, Village fetes, wildlife parks & many other groups have all enjoyed a SEKAS visit. Usually we will give a talk and provide a variety of telescopes to show the night sky. From experience we usually prefer evening visits to be when the Moon is visible as the Moon will often show through thin cloud even where the stars don’t. In the summer months or for a daytime visit we could instead bring especially adapted telescopes to allow safe viewing of the Sun.
Obviously we can’t control the weather, so if it is raining we will show images taken by our members & show our telescopes indoors.
With the Scouts
With schools, Scouts etc. & other young people we have a variety of activities so the children circulate between activities and the telescopes, keeping themselves busy. We can arrange these to help meet badge requirements for Scouting or Guiding if required.
If you would like a visit from SEKAS please contact the chairman by email (which can be found on the committee page. We don’t charge, but our attendance is dependent on members being available.
Telescopes at The Langton
We have one regular public meeting at The Langton. (Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys.) This is usually on the first Friday of the month from 7 – 10pm, October – March. The Langton arranges a talk, and activities for children, they also have a fully fitted observatory & several smaller telescopes for the public to use. SEKAS members will also bring telescopes and are available to offer help or advice if needed.
Where we are at a public event like a village fete this will usually be advertised on our Facebook page. Obviously, if we attend a Scouts (etc.) evening this will only be open to the members of that particular organisation/troop/group etc.
