Tonight, Mars will be at opposition, meaning it will be opposite the Sun in the sky, making it around the best time to image and observe it (though closest approach is 29th May – see the SEKAS even planned for that evening!). It will appear 18.4 arc seconds in diameter, which although still relatively small compared to Jupiter at opposition, still allows us to more easily see the polar ice caps and surface detail.
