Western Heights

Join Greg Esson, SEKAS Observatory Director, at the historic Western Heights Open Weekend on Sunday 22nd May, to show members of the public our nearest star – the Sun.

We will have white light and Ha scopes, and SEKAS members will be available to talk to the public about the diversity and enjoyment of our hobby, as well as explaining about viewing the Sun safely.   We will have a selection of scopes on display and are always happy to talk to people who may be having problems with a piece of equipment, or astro imaging or good old fashioned visual observing.

The event is usually well attended in good weather, and we are now a regular fixture at this event and some of the event support team and re-enactors enjoy our exhibition and what we show them.

This event is also weather dependant, and I will give updates the night before and early in the morning on the day.  However, the open day for the Drop Redoubt is worth the visit anyway!

UPDATE: 8:45am Sunday 22nd May  From Greg Esson: The Met Office forecast for Dover currently shows that it will be cloudy all day with rain after lunchtime. The satellite images show the possibility of small gaps in the cloud later.  I will still setup at the event, but will take a basic static display and gazebo, with the option of some visual use should the weather improve during the day.

I will be there around 9am to start setting up.
